Most of these photos were taken over the past two years in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Mexico. This includes some landscape and scenery galleries. But this site is primarily about birds. But also check my related nature site:
http://krcarver.com or my
Flickr site.
Up-close bird photos reveal details not apparent to the naked eye. This includes habitat, plumage patterns, feather details, feeding habits, size, shape, color, etc. The views with a long focal length high quality telephoto lens plus the marvels of digital cameras, software and the Internet help bring the fascinating world of birds to the computer screen of anyone with online access and interest.
Many of these bird photos were taken in the summers of 2007 and 2008 at several midcoast Maine locations: Damariscotta Lake, Weskeag Marsh, Scarborough Marsh and Matinicus Rock in the Gulf of Maine. Weskeag is near Rockland and Scarborough is just south of Portland. Additional photos were taken in November 2007 at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge near Socorrro, New Mexico, and in March-May 2008 in western Massachusetts.
My gear includes a Canon EOS 5D DSLR, a Canon EOS 1D MkIII DSLR, a Canon 500 mm f4 IS lens, 1.4X and 2.0X teleconverters, and a Gitzo 1325 carbon fiber tripod.
